Take a Home Sleep Test

Our private home sleep test is a fast and affordable way to diagnose Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA). Our WatchPAT diagnostic device is simple in its design and comfortable to wear from the comfort of your own home.

The information it collects gives our NHS-qualified sleep clinicians a thorough understanding of your sleep to confirm if Obstructive Sleep Apnoea is present.

The innovative WatchPAT home sleep study for Sleep Apnoea is a medically approved diagnostic equipment that offers comparable accuracy to an overnight sleep test conducted at a hospital or sleep clinic.

The WatchPAT is worn overnight to asses your breathing patterns. It monitors your blood oxygen level, heart rate, body position, movements, snoring intensity, and Peripheral Arterial Tone, a key signal for possible breathing issues during sleep.

Why Choose Our Home Sleep Test?

Benefits of the WatchPAT Home Sleep Apnoea Test | Intus HealthcareFast: Each test includes free UK delivery, and you will get your results within two working days. Plus, if you purchase CPAP equipment from us, you can start your Sleep Apnoea treatment as soon as the next day.

Confidential: Your results are yours alone; Intus Healthcare has no obligation to inform any third party unless it is requested. If you start treatment with us and stay on track, we can also provide a letter to the DVLA if necessary.

Convenient: You do not need to schedule time off work for an overnight stay, as you can complete the test from the comfort of your own bed.

Best Alternative to NHS Sleep Clinic: This device provides testing accuracy comparable to a Sleep Apnoea test in a hospital or sleep clinic. Choosing a home sleep study lets you get a Sleep Apnoea diagnosis faster. You won’t have to wait for a sleep test through the NHS, which helps reduce treatment delays.

Free Clinical Consultation: If your results show moderate or severe Sleep Apnoea, you will receive a free consultation with our sleep specialists. They will discuss your results and the best treatment options for you.

NHS Partnership: We are an official NHS contractor. We help NHS patients diagnose their sleep problems with our home sleep tests in the UK.

Environmentally Friendly: Due to Itamar’s Green Program, the rapid device is recyclable, meaning you can dispose of it sustainably after use. This is easy to do following the UK Green Programs’ free return system. Alternatively, our standard device must be returned to us as it is reusable equipment.

Reliable: The WatchPAT device is the most clinically validated home sleep study for Sleep Apnoea available. Its accurate results correlate at 90% with the gold standard diagnostic tool (Polysomnography) used in a sleep clinic that requires an overnight stay.

No other At-Home Sleep Test approved by the main regulatory body, the AASM, provides this level of accuracy. Our sleep consultants are NHS-qualified and have at least five years of experience scoring sleep studies. They are also accredited by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT).

Which test option is best for me?

The Rapid Sleep Apnoea test allows the WatchPAT device to automatically transmit data from your sleep study via the WatchPAT ONE mobile app (available to download from the App Store or Google Play). Click to watch our video guide for the Rapid Sleep Test.

If you don’t have a compatible smartphone, that’s no problem. You can order the standard test and send it back to us. You will expect results in a little longer than two working days due to the time it takes to return the equipment. Click to watch our video guide for the Standard Sleep Test.

What happens when I get my results?

Treatment options require a diagnosis of Sleep Apnoea; however, you may wish to investigate your condition further. We can advise you on the most suitable treatment option based on your sleep condition and medical history:

Intus Plus: Our Intus Plus subscription service includes leading CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) equipment, regular clinical consultations, remote monitoring, a success guarantee, and more, all for just £49 a month. This is an affordable way to start treatment and regain quality sleep.

CPAP Equipment: We offer a variety of popular CPAP machines and masks from leading brands so you can experience the benefits of quality sleep.

Anti-Snoring Devices: If you are diagnosed with a milder form of OSA, we provide various alternative options, such as mandibular advancement devices.

Further investigation: If you wish to receive treatment from the NHS, you can provide your private sleep test results to your GP to reduce your wait for treatment. They may refer you to a sleep clinic, depending on the waiting time.

Can anyone take an In-Home Sleep Apnoea Test?

Our In-Home Sleep Apnoea Test services are only available to people aged 18 or over. We also recommend not taking this test if your BMI is 45 or above. This is because any treatment will likely need to be overseen by a specialist, a level of care we cannot provide. In this instance, we recommend discussing your sleep symptoms with your GP at your earliest convenience.

If you are an existing CPAP user, it is advised to pause using your therapy for five days before taking a sleep test.

Acrylic nails, gel nails and nail polish will affect the accuracy of the test result. Before starting the test, remove nail coverings from the finger used by the pulse oximeter.

If you are suffering from a cold or feeling unwell, please wait to recover before taking the test.

What is the cancellation policy?

This is a service, and the service begins when your Sleep Test kit has been despatched. Unused tests can be returned, but the refund will be limited due to costs already incurred by Intus in the provision of the test, regardless of it not having been taken.

Is an In-Home Sleep Apnoea Test accurate?

An In-Home Sleep Apnoea Test is a convenient and effective way to diagnose Sleep Apnoea. Intus Healthcare, our pioneering In-Home Sleep Test, uses the revolutionary WatchPAT diagnostic that provides accuracy comparable to PSG (used in sleep laboratories for in-depth sleep analysis).

The WatchPat device monitors your blood oxygen levels, heart rate, body position, body movements, snoring intensity, and, crucially, your Peripheral Arterial Tone – a key physiological signal that can indicate respiratory disturbances during sleep.

How does the Standard Sleep Test work?

Using our Standard In-Home Sleep Test is easy and requires just one night of sleep. Included with your test is a set of instructions, and you will also receive an email with helpful guidance.

After testing, you must complete the online medical questionnaire and consent forms and use the prepaid returns bag to return the device to us.

Once we get the device back, we’ll upload your data and pass it to one of our sleep specialists for analysis. You can learn more by watching our guidance video.

Can I watch TV during a Home Sleep Study?

You can watch TV or other forms of entertainment before going to sleep. However, all transmitting devices, such as smart watches, smart phones etc should be turned off before attempting to start the test. Devices could interfere with the function of the test equipment.

What if I can't sleep during a Home Sleep Study?

It is not uncommon for people to have difficulty sleeping during a Sleep Study. The test only requires four hours of sleep to determine an accurate result. This doesn’t need to be four consecutive hours; it can be accumulated throughout the night.

Stick to your normal sleep routine as much as possible. Go to bed and wake up at the same times you normally do, and choose a night when you’re not doing anything different. This will provide a true representation of your sleep.

Once activated, the equipment should not be removed until the morning.

What do my sleep study results mean?

Your results letter will include a copy of your sleep data. It will also confirm the severity of the condition, should you have it, and advise on the best treatment options. For results showing moderate or severe Sleep Apnoea, a complimentary clinical consultation is included.

Watch our guidance video to learn more.

Can I use the sleep test if I have a pacemaker?

The WatchPAT is perfectly safe for patients with pacemakers, but the result will be affected by the type of pacemaker used.

WatchPAT needs a combination of blood vessel constriction and an increased heart rate to detect respiratory events.

When the heart rate is controlled by a pacemaker and no natural heart rate is available, the WatchPAT device will find it much more challenging to detect respiratory events.

On-demand pacemakers are fine, and only patients with permanent pacing should avoid using the WatchPAT device, as the results may not be as conclusive and clear.

How many nights is a home sleep study?

The WatchPAT One test uses advanced sensors and algorithms to provide clinically accurate results from just one night of testing. This not only reduces inconvenience but also speeds up diagnosis and treatment planning.

Devices that require two nights typically reflect older-generation sleep testing technology or systems that compensate for lower data reliability by collecting more data over time.

What are the benefits of a 1-night test like WatchPAT?
  • Faster results (report ready in 2 working days)
  • Less disruption to your routine
  • Clinically validated accuracy
  • Ideal for faster diagnosis and treatment planning
